Bible on Video

Seeing the Story

Seeing the Story

“I’d rather watch the movie than read the book.” Many people—even proficient readers--feel that way. Some people cannot read a book, so the video version is a valuable alternative for them. The Bible on video can make the stories of the Bible vividly accessible to those who’d rather encounter them on screen.

Countless millions of people have seen one of the many films that have sought to portray biblical stories accurately. Mission organizations report hundreds of thousands of decisions in response to the films. Viewers are moved deeply by seeing the events unfolding on the screen. The visual depiction captures the attention of both inexperienced and experience viewers of video. People can watch it again and again if they wish.

New technology continues to create additional options for telling the biblical story through video and for delivering it through means as diverse as theatres, DVDs, streaming video, and smart phones. Projects are under way to develop biblical stories in 2-3 minute segments, half-hour segments, and probably other lengths as well. Both live-action and animated videos are available and contemplated. These offer oral communicators a means of getting the message of the Bible if they have access to the technology and the background to interpret the message correctly.
